The best hitters in the history of the SBDL are defined mostly by power and OPS. In fact, the "elite" hitters for this league are the ones that are perennially protected and top the leaderboards each season. Still, you can find the aberrations, the surprises, the values.
The best pitchers are not as glamorous statistically as the hitters, but just as vital to a winning team. You can find truly dominating performances even in an offensive-minded league, such as Bob Feller, Sandy Koufax, Ray Narleski, and Dick Radatz.
Then there are the "voted" awards that HAL creates in the game engine: MVP and Cy Young award. These are fun just to see listed, particularly when you see how much love Babe Ruth gets. =)
The last list is the Rookie of the Year. The league commissioner selects the one hitter and one pitcher who excelled over all others in their first SBDL season. Because the league has a "retirement" format where some players from the ATG set are not active until others are retired, there have always been players that never saw playing time in the SBDL. So, each season, as new players are introduced to the player pool, new "rookies" emerge as the best new players to the SBDL.
In the left-hand column, you will also find a downloadable Excel doc that contains all of the hitting and pitching stats since the league started. It's fun to look at that list and see how players have fared.
