Congratulations to Honeyman!
Andrew's "Streaking Nuns" scored one run in the 1st, one run in the 2nd, and 3 in the 3rd to give Cy Young winner Bert Blyleven all the support he would need to claim the SBDL title.
Blyleven scattered five hits and completed what he started with a 7-0 shutout - the third straight shutout hurled by Honeyman's pitching - to complete the improbable and incredible comeback from 3-0 down to win the SBDL crown!
The SBDL postseason MVP goes to Honeyman first baseman George Sisler. The Sizzler hit .436 with 3 doubles, 1 triple, 5 home runs, 15 runs, 16 rbi, and hit safely in all 12 games. Sisler's first postseason home run was the most memorable, though. He hit a one-out walkoff 2-run bomb in the bottom of the 11th in game 5 of the semifinals, sending the "Streaking Nuns" to the finals. Sisler also had a three-HR game in game 6 of the finals, and led the offensive charge in game 4 with 4 hits including a homer, 3 runs, and 3 rbi in the 16-8 win that sparked the series comeback.
SBDL Finals go to a Game 7!
Tomwistar (Tom) takes the first THREE games of the series, then Honeyman (Andrew) comes back with a rout in game four 16-8 to force a game five.
In game five, Al Simmons stroked a leadoff HR in the 2nd inning to five Honeyman a 1-0 lead. That
was all that Nolan Ryan needed as he and Dick Radatz combined on a 2-0, 4-hit shutout of
tomwistar to force a game six. Honeyman's offense rapped four singles in the 2nd inning, added two singles, a triple, and a homer in the 3rd to jump out to 6-0 lead. Mudcat Grant did all the rest, basically, as Honeyman evened the series at 3-3 with its second straight shutout, 9-0.
Game 7 tonight: A rematch of the game 3 hurlers. Claude Passeau, winner of game 3 for tomwistar,
versus Honeyman's Bert Blyleven. Will it be an offensive outburst like game 3 (13-11 final, with
30 hits) or will we see more pitching and defense of the recent days?
The SBDL Season 17 title comes down to this final game.
tomwistar - the wild card at
Honeyman - the division rival
at Griffith '41
Great start to the postseason!
Tomwistar takes both road games against BobBoone. Now Taken must return the favor in order to return to the SBDL finals.
Honeyman and emart each won their first SBDL playoff games - but with the Fringe taking that second game over the Strekaing Nuns, that team has home field advantage for what is now a best-of-3 series.
Ooooo... looks like we're going to have a doozy of a postseason again!
Playoff Push
Honeyman has clinched the East for his first-ever SBDL playoff berth.
Emart has clinched the Central for his first-ever SBDL playoff berth.
Defending SBDL champ BobBoone has clinched the West.
The wild card, however, is a wild race. The two SBDL originals tomwistar and Palanion are duking it out as divisional rivals while modmark is trying for the playoff spot in another division. These three managers have 15 total playoff appearances, 11 finals appearances, and 6 rings. (For reference, the remaining 9 managers have 23 playoff appearances and 3 rings in the SBDL.)
Which of the three will acquire that last postseason slot?
With 6 games to go, tomwistar has a 1-game lead on modmark and a 2-game lead on Palanion. Tom and Bill will play each other for the final three games of the season (at Tom’s park).
If Tom and Mark tie, then Tom wins by virtue of a 5-4 H2H record.
If Tom and Bill tie, then Tom wins by virtue of the MUCH better run differential.
If Mark and Bill tie, then Bill wins by virtue of a 7-5 H2H record.
If there’s a 3-way tie, then Mark wins by virtue of the better divisional record.
